We're innovators and climate activists, confronting the problem of weather-related internet outages. It's a threat we're discussing with business leaders and policy makers, who are largely unaware. Some are resigned to wide scale internet failures as Acts of God. Others doubt that there's a practical solution.
Internet vulnerability may be the most looming, least respected threat of our time. It's hardly mentioned at climate forums or in in vulnerability assessments for critical infrastructure. You can scan dozens of blue-ribbon resilience reports, like this one by Bloomberg, entitled, "Risky Business: The Economics of Climate Change in the United States", and never see the words "telecom" or "internet".
Yet we are undaunted. We believe that wherever the internet is a lifeline resource, it's too important to fail. Therefore, internet resilience is essential, and have a vision of what it should be [read our white paper]. Our solution meets today's challenge of extreme weather and the future of sea level rise.
